When missing a tooth or teeth in the mouth Dr. Carpenter sometimes makes a bridge to replaced those missing teeth. A bridge is an appliance permanently fixed in the mouth to replace missing teeth. Patients report a bridge feels very similar to their own natural teeth. It uses remaining teeth to support the new artificial tooth or teeth. A bridge is made up of crowns for the teeth on either side of the space and a false tooth/teeth rigidly attached in between. The bridge can be made from gold, porcelain or a combination of these materials.
Recently at Carpenter Dental more patients are opting for dental implants to replace a missing tooth.
The advantage of implants is that adjacent teeth are conserved and left untouched. Bone is also preserved and implant supported restorations tend to last longer in most patients. Costs are similar between a bridge and an implant supported crown.
